Who it suits
A Side Jeep Tour With a Baby or Toddler: An Honest Look
The fare is the easy part: under 2, nothing. The real question is whether a day in an open jeep suits your child, and only you can answer it.
Short answer
A baby or toddler under 2 rides free on both day tours; enter them in the form's free row, by age, and they travel with you. They cannot come on the night safari, which takes guests aged 12 and over. Whether the day is right for your child is your call: the jeeps are open in summer, the tracks are bumpy and dusty, and water flies between the jeeps.
Booking the smallest guest
The form counts guests by age, and its youngest row says free, with an adult. Put your baby there rather than leaving them off the booking: the operator plans the convoy from the guest list, and a child the list does not know about is a seat nobody planned for.
Children travel with an adult in the party, so a booking cannot be a toddler and an older sibling on their own. If you are booking for grandparents who will take a small grandchild, the same rule applies to them.
What is not on our record
Parents ask about car seats and baby seats in the jeeps. Nothing in the operator's record mentions one, so it is not something we promise. The same goes for changing facilities at the stops, shade on board, or how a pushchair copes with the ground at the viewpoints; some stops are on uneven ground, and that is as far as the record goes.
If one of these decides the day for you, ask us on WhatsApp before you book, and we put the question to the operator rather than guess. We do not give medical advice either: if your child has a health question, it belongs with your own doctor.
Thinking it through for your child
- Length. About 8 hours from your hotel gate and back, with climbing in and out at every stop. A baby who naps anywhere will cope differently from one who naps only in a cot.
- Sun and wind. In summer the jeeps have no roof. Plan a hat that stays on and cover for small arms and legs.
- Bumps and dust. After the Roman bridge the tracks shake everyone about in places, and the dust reaches every seat.
- Water. On summer departures the jeeps soak each other on purpose, and the river crossings splash. Pack spare clothes where they will stay dry.
- Winter. The same route runs in covered jeeps with no water games, which changes the picture for some families.
If the answer is yes
Write your child's age in the notes as well as in the guest row, so the team expects a small passenger at the gate. The children's guide covers the fares for every age, and is it safe? sets out what the record says about the tracks. When you have decided, the classic day is where the booking starts.
