Water Fights on the Side Jeep Tour: What Happens in Summer
If you have seen photos of a jeep convoy in a cloud of spray, this is the page behind them. The short version: summer is wet, winter is not, and your phone needs a plan.
Short answer
On summer departures the open-top jeeps have water fights between them, and the river crossings add splashes of their own. In winter a roof goes over every jeep and the water games stop. Wear clothes that can get soaked and keep your phone in a waterproof pouch or sealed bag.
What the water fights are
They are part of the summer programme on the day tours, not a surprise sprung on the passengers. The jeeps are open-top, they travel as a convoy, and between them water flies. On top of that, the off-road section takes the jeeps through dry riverbeds and across streams, and a jeep going through water throws a fair amount of it back up.
The operator's record describes the water fights as part of summer departures. It says nothing about a dry seat or a dry jeep in the convoy, so we will not promise you one. If you are on a summer date, plan on getting wet.
Summer and winter
| Summer departures | Winter departures | |
|---|---|---|
| Jeeps | Open-top | Covered |
| Water fights | Yes, between the jeeps | No water games |
| River crossings | Yes — part of the route | Yes — part of the route |
| What to wear | Clothes that can get soaked | Ordinary clothes for a dusty day |
Both seasons drive the same route at the same fare, €20 per person aged 11 and over. See season and weather for what else changes.
Keeping a phone dry
- Seal it. A waterproof pouch or a zip-lock bag is the simplest protection.
- Take it out at the stops. The viewpoints, the aqueducts and the dam are where the photos are, and nobody is splashing there.
- Leave what you do not need. Wallets, papers and a second phone are safer at the hotel. Carry only the euros the day may ask for.
- Think about the camera. The tour team's photo and video service is not in the fare, so your own phone is usually the camera of the day. Protect it accordingly.
Children, and the guests who would rather stay dry
On a family booking, the splashing is worth planning for. Children aged 2 to 10 pay €10, and those under 2 ride free; remember that a very small child in an open jeep will get wet with everyone else on a summer run.
If staying dry matters to you, the honest answer is the calendar: book a winter date. The jeeps then have roofs, nobody throws water, and the route is unchanged.
Before you go
Read what to wear and bring for the full list, and the off-road part for what the river crossings are like. Then pick a date for the classic day; the zoo route has the same summer water fights.
